- Sharp, Kinane Limited ensure that all facilitators working for Sharp, Kinane Limited have the legal right to live and work in NZ. A copy of their passport and residency status is copied and kept on file and is available for inspection at all times
- All facilitators have a current teacher registration practicing certificate with either full or STC status
- All facilitators have a current and up to date Police check
- All facilitators working on PLD contracts, have gone through and attained MoE accredited facilitator status
- Before working on behalf of Sharp, Kinane Limited, all facilitators have been observed teaching in class by either or both Jacqui and David and have undergone an interview to ensure that the pedagogy and philosophy of the facilitator aligns with the pedagogy and philosophy of Sharp, Kinane Limited and the aims of the MoE to raise the attainment of all akonga identified as priority learners
- All facilitators have to provide at least two referees from within the New Zealand education sector prior to working on any PLD contracts. Sharp, Kinane Limited’s representatives will contact these referees and seek either a written reference or a verbal reference from the referees and these will be kept on each facilitators’ file
- All facilitators have to provide a chronological employment history on their CV covering the previous 5 years of employment Sharp, Kinane Limited will check and verify some of the details and seek further clarification of any gaps in chronology
All subcontractors and facilitators contracted to deliver PLD support in other locations, ie schools, Kura and CoLs, shall inquire at the start of a contract and regularly throughout the delivery of the contract if there are any issues, procedures and specific requirements relating to vulnerable children that they should be made aware of, in the classes the facilitator(s) are scheduled to work in on any given day.
Working in classes with children, our role is defined as a core role under the VCA. As such, Sharp, Kinane Limited will make available to each school, upon request the following details about any facilitator or subcontractor scheduled to deliver support to a school:
- Full name
- Copy of Passport and residency status
- Residential address
- Contact information – phone number(s), email address(es)
- Copy of Teacher Registration certificate
- Supplied CV and any references/notes made as a result of verbal references
- Copy of MoE facilitation accreditation status/expiry date

Health and Safety at Work

This policy should be read in conjunction with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Purpose
Sharp, Kinane Limited is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all its employees and subcontractors by complying with relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, New Zealand standards and approved codes of practice. Sharp, Kinane Limited is committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for all Employees and subcontractors and other people in the workplace.
We will achieve this through:
- Making health and safety a key part of our role
- Working with our employees and subcontractors to improve the health and safety system at Sharp, Kinane Limited
- Doing everything reasonably possible to remove or reduce the risk of injury or illness
- Making sure all incidents, injuries and near misses are recorded in the Injuries at Work Log, investigating incidents, near misses and reducing the likelihood of them happening again
- Having emergency plans and procedures in place
- Training everyone about hazards and risks to ensure that everyone can work safely
- Providing appropriate induction, training and supervision for all new and existing employees and subcontractors
- Helping employees and subcontractors who were injured or ill return to work safely
- Making sure employees and subcontractors operate in a safe manner.
All employees and subcontractors at Sharp, Kinane Limited are encouraged to play a vital and responsible role in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace through:
- Being involved in improving health and safety systems at work
- Following all instructions, rules, procedures and safe ways of working
- Reporting any pain or discomfort as soon as possible
- Reporting all injuries, incidents and near misses
- Helping new workers, staff members, trainees and visitors to the workplace understand the safety procedures and why they exist
- Reporting any health and safety concerns or issues through the reporting system
- Keeping the workplace tidy to minimise the risk of any trips and falls
- Wearing protective clothing and equipment as and when required to minimise your exposure to workplace hazards.
Others in the workplace
All others in the workplace visitors are encouraged to:
- Follow all instructions, rules and procedures while on the Sharp, Kinane Limited premises
- Report all injuries, incidents and near misses to Sharp, Kinane Limited staff members
- Wear protective clothing and equipment as and when required to minimise exposure to hazards while working.
Working in other locations:
All subcontractors and facilitators contracted to deliver PLD support in other locations, ie Schools, Kura and CoL’s shall abide by the Health and Safety requirements of the institution they are working in on any given day.
All those associated with Sharp, Kinane Limited are to understand that health and safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Vulnerable Children Act
All subcontractors and facilitators contracted to deliver PLD support in other locations, ie schools, Kura and CoLs, shall inquire at the start of a contract and regularly throughout the delivery of the contract if there are any issues, procedures and specific requirements relating to vulnerable children in the classes the facilitator(s) are scheduled to work in on any given day.
The following steps allow us to carry out the aims of our health, safety, and welfare policy:
- Sharp, Kinane Limited has Health and Safety representation and conducts an annual internal audit of Sharp, Kinane Limited’s health and safety compliance and practices.
- Workers take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other people, and comply with any reasonable instruction given to them by management.
- The staff is kept informed of the results of health and safety monitoring and review, and consulted in the development and review of these procedures. The staff understands and implements all health and safety procedures, and is kept trained and supervised in their implementation.
- All staff are active in hazard identification and risk management.
- Sharp, Kinane Limited provides health and safety induction, training, and supervision for all workers.
- On health and safety issues, Sharp, Kinane Limited consults, cooperates and coordinates with contractors working at school.
Health, Safety, and Welfare Policy
Sharp, Kinane Limited is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being, as far as is reasonably practicable, of employees, and visitors both on-site and when away from Sharp, Kinane Limited. The directors of Sharp, Kinane Limited are responsible for this policy.
Sharp, Kinane Limited:
- provides and maintains a safe physical environment for staff and visitors
- meets our legal requirements, to ensure the safety of employees, and visitors
- exercise due diligence to ensure that Sharp, Kinane Limited meets its health and safety obligations
- continuously improves our health and safety performance.
The following steps allow us to carry out the aims of our health, safety, and welfare policy:
- Sharp, KInane Limited has Health and Safety representation and conducts an annual internal audit of Sharp, KInane Limited’s health and safety compliance and practices.
- The directors, and subcontractors take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of other people, and comply with any reasonable instruction given to them by Sharp, Kinane Limited.
- Everyone at Sharp, Kinane Limited is kept informed of the results of health and safety monitoring and review, and consulted in the development and review of these procedures. The directors, subcontractors and facilitators understand and implements all health and safety procedures, and are kept trained and supervised in their implementation.
- All staff are active in hazard identification and risk management.
- Sharp, Kinane Limited provides health and safety induction, training, and supervision for all subcontractors and facilitators.
- On health and safety issues, Sharp, Kinane Limited consults, cooperates and coordinates with contractors working on site.
- Sharp, Kinane Limited maintains:
- a hazard register and any identified hazard is eliminated or minimised.
- an accident register, including first aid records and all accidents and near misses, and informs WorkSafe NZ when a notifiable incident occurs in any place controlled by Sharp, Kinane Limited.
- Sharp, Kinane Limited complies with the Smoke-free legislation and promotes a smoke-free lifestyle.
